Group Health Insurance

Group Health is an employer’s plan for a business.  In Oregon, you may apply
for group coverage which is guaranteed issue as long as there are two
employees present.
Often one spouse has a health issue which will prevent him/her from passing
underwriting for an individual/family plan, and if one of the spouses has a
business and the other works in the business 17.5 hrs per week, then you can
apply for group coverage.  Oregon has tightened up verification for small
groups so it really needs to be a legitimate business, which of course many
small “mom and pop” operations are.

And of course, small employers know that in order to attract and maintain
good employees it is important to have benefits, and the basic one is a
health plan.  Employers are required by the State to pay a minimum of 50% of
the cost of the employee’s coverage and 0% of dependents.  Some employers in
certain industries can afford to cover whole families but most are somewhere
in between.  Employer’s are prevented from paying for Individual/Family
plans, they can only buy true group plans.
